New Safeture map flags 29 high-risk countries for female travellers as corporate safety policies fail to keep up

29 countries worldwide are classified as “high concern” for women according to Safeture, underlining the ongoing need for more informed, inclusive, and proactive travel safety strategies.

Organisations with employees who travel internationally must ensure their travel risk management programs account for the diverse challenges different travelers might encounter.

The newly published 2026 Female Travelers Risk Map by Safeture and risk intelligence provider Riskline highlights that female travellers may encounter destination-specific risks, including harassment, assault, gender-based discrimination, local laws and customs, and uneven access to healthcare and wellness services. The assessment is based on three main factors: Laws and Customs, Safety, and Health and Wellness.

For employers, these findings emphasize an important point: travel risk management can’t rely on a one-size-fits-all approach.

“Organisations need to recognise that travel risk is not experienced equally by everyone,” says Magnus Hultman, CEO of Safeture. “A modern Duty of Care strategy needs to consider traveler-specific factors and provide employees with relevant information, clear communication, and the ability to respond quickly when conditions change.”

According to Riskline, the countries identified as high concern are mainly in parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas. The report also notes that ongoing regional instability, transportation disruptions, and airspace closures can pose additional challenges for travellers and make preparation even more essential.

The findings also reveal a gap in many corporate travel programs. GBTA data shows that while 74% of travel buyers are women, only 27% say their company’s travel policies specifically address the safety of female travellers. Additionally, 62% of travel buyers believe that female employees face greater risks than male employees when traveling for work.

This emphasises the importance of employers improving how they evaluate and manage travel risks. Pre-trip information, destination-specific guidance, safe transportation and lodging arrangements, and dependable communication channels are all crucial for supporting employees before and during their travel.

Safeture helps organisations with a technology platform built for people risk management. It combines risk intelligence, location features, communication tools, and crisis support into a single solution.

“As travel risk becomes more complex, organisations need both relevant intelligence and the ability to act on it,” adds Hultman. “That is where technology plays a critical role, helping employers support their people with greater precision, speed, and confidence.”
