Axis releases new Q1971-E thermal camera

Axis

Axis Communications has launched a thermal camera that can detect and verify 24/7 regardless of weather or light conditions and even in low-contrast scenes.

Using thermal technology, Axis states that the AXIS Q1971-E offers reliable detection and verification 24/7, even in low contrast scenes and isn’t impacted by weather or light conditions ensuring a lower false alarm rate.

Additionally, thermal imaging doesn’t allow for identification, so Axis believes that privacy is always guaranteed. With five lens alternatives available (7 mm, 13 mm, 19 mm, 25 mm, and 35 mm), Axis guarantees that it delivers optimal detection capabilities to meet specific needs.

Thermal palettes make it easier and more efficient to interpret a scene and additionally, electronic image stabilisation (EIS) ensures stable, reliable video in all environments.

Thermal cameras use thermal imaging technology to capture the infrared radiation emitted by objects. It uses this data to create visual representations of temperature differences, enabling the detection of heat signatures invisible to the naked eye. As a result, there’s no hiding from it.

The AXIS Q1971-E thermal camera comes with AXIS Motion Guard, AXIS Fence Guard, and AXIS Loitering Guard preinstalled for proactive surveillance.

AXIS Perimeter Defender is also available for enhanced protection making it possible to detect and classify humans and other objects. Built on a powerful platform, it’s also possible to add third-party analytics to trigger events.

Key features include:

  • Reliable thermal detection
  • Five lens alternatives
  • Support for AXIS Perimeter Defender
  • Built-in cybersecurity with Axis Edge Vault
  • Compact, robust, and halogen-free

This powerful thermal camera includes two I/O ports for connecting external devices. Edge-to-edge technology makes it possible to connect, for instance, a hornspeaker to enable audio alarms that deter, warn, and notify. Furthermore, Axis Edge Vault safeguards the device and offers FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified key storage and operations.

Why thermal cameras are reliable detection and recognition tools

Thermal cameras offer reliable detection and verification regardless of visibility. That’s because thermal imaging can detect humans, animals, and other objects even in adverse weather and light conditions.

Unlike conventional cameras, this technology only allows for detection, determining a person’s shape and size, so privacy is always guaranteed.

Thermal imaging also offers a cost-effective way to protect property. With long detection range, fewer cameras are needed to cover large areas. This also ensures lower bandwidth and storage requirements. Plus, thermal cameras need lower power consumption and can detect in total darkness without the need for extra lighting.
