The ISRM is delighted to announce its support as a sponsor for the ECPD XI Global Youth Forum this year, scheduled for October 29th, 2023, at the Belgrade City Hall, with the main topic “Youth Leadership for System Change to Save the Earth for All”.

The European Center for Peace and Development (ECPD) of the University for Peace was established by the United Nations and according to the ISRM, the involvement of youth in global discussions is a vital investment in our shared future. By offering young minds the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and seasoned professionals, the Forum fosters an environment of growth, inspiration and collaboration, the ISRM says.

As a prominent sponsor, the ISRM will actively participate in shaping the event’s content and impact. Dr David Rubens, Executive Director of the ISRM, will deliver a keynote speech and then introduce the recently established Centre for the Study of Wicked Problems (CSWP), by leading a workshop on Global Urban Resilience. This interactive session will offer attendees a preview of one of CSWP’s future projects, linking them to innovative ideas and forward-thinking solutions.

Alongside Dr Rubens, other members of the ISRM team will deliver presentations, each contributing unique insights and reinforcing the ISRM’s and CSWP’s dedication to empowering future leaders.

We are excited to announce that all participants of the XI Global Youth Forum, whether attending in person or online, will have the opportunity to apply for a paid internship within the ISRM and the CSWP. This internship symbolises our belief in nurturing talent, enhancing skills, and building a dynamic community focused on addressing complex global challenges.

The conference will be inaugurated with keynote addresses by distinguished personalities, including H.E. Federico Mayor, ECPD President and long-standing Director-General of UNESCO; Prof. Dr. Francisco Rojas, Rector of the University for Peace; Mrs. Ouided Bouchamaoui, 2015 Nobel Prize Laureate; Prof. Dr. Johan Galtung, founder of the International Institute for Peace Research. The attendance of H.E. Csaba Korosi, the President of the General Assembly of the UN, is also expected.

This conference promises to resonate globally, with conclusions and recommendations set to be distributed to heads of states, foreign ministers and high-ranking officials within the UN and the EU.

Among the distinguished participants, the contribution of Dr David Rubens, Executive Director of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (ISRM), who also serves as a professor at the ECPD and the Director of the Strategic Risk and Crisis Management Department, adds a unique dimension to this conference.

With his keynote speech, Dr David Rubens will introduce the recently established Centre for the Study of Wicked Problems, highlighting the intricate landscape of global challenges and the complex nature of “wicked problems.” His remarks will serve as both an enrichment to the discussion and a call to collaborative action on multifaceted issues.

In alignment with the conference, the XI Global Youth Forum, with the main topic “Youth Leadership for System Change to Save the Earth for All”, will be held on October 29th. This youth-focused event, also hosted at the Belgrade City Hall, anticipates the participation of young future leaders from over 100 countries.
