International Cyber Expo’s Global Cyber Summit announces resilience as its overarching theme

Nineteen Group, organisers of International Cyber Expo, has announced the programme for the 2024 Global Cyber Summit, curated by the Security Awareness Special Interest Group (SASIG) and sponsored by Dataminr, Threatlocker, and e2e-Assure.

The summit, set to take place at Olympia London on the 24-25 September 2024, will feature insightful panel discussions focused on cybersecurity in an international context, with key themes including emerging technology and the impact of geopolitics, conflict, crime, and disinformation on the threat landscape.

Curated by SASIG’s team, drawing insights from their community of 10,000 cyber professionals, the summit will address the most pressing cybersecurity challenges of the past year and forecast future developments.

Notable speakers such as Pete Cooper, Deputy Director of Cyber Defence at the UK Cabinet Office, and Ciaran Martin CB, Oxford University Professor and Former CEO of the National Cyber Security Centre, will deliver opening remarks to kick off the event on day one.

The Global Cyber Summit will be chaired by four of the industry’s most esteemed thought-leaders and changemakers:

  • Day 1 (morning) – Pete Cooper, Deputy Director, Cyber Defence UK Cabinet Office
  • Day 1 (afternoon) – John Madelin, Managing Partner Digital Security, Cambridge Management Consulting
  • Day 2 (morning) – Jim Mulheron, Chief Risk Officer Transformation, Technology and Innovation at Standard Chartered Bank
  • Day 2 (afternoon) – Lisa Forte, Partner at Red Goat Cyber Security (and International Cyber Expo advisory council member).

Special guest speakers include General Sir Richard Shirreff KCB, CBE, former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander, Europe at NATO, Dr Melanie Garson, Cyber Policy & Tech Geopolitics Lead at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, who will discuss cyber resilience, tech diplomacy and data governance challenges.

Nik Adams, Assistant Commissioner, City of London Police Cyber Crime Unit, will speak on businesses working in partnership with law enforcement. Stephen McPartland, Former Member of Parliament, BT Group will share insight from the latest review of cybersecurity and economic growth.

Other globally pertinent subject matters and highlights include:

  • Anna Rowe, Co-founder & Content Director at Lovesaid will reveal how romance fraud works, why victims are falling for it and what is being done to stop it.
  • Lucy Fraser, Policy Advisor, General insurance at ABI sheds light on whether we should pay out on ransomware.
  • Stewart Room, Global Head of Cyber Security and Data Protection at DWF Law LLP highlights emerging regulations and the impacts for businesses.
  • A panel session on bridging the skills gap will take place focusing on the key hurdles of bridging the gap, how to incentivise businesses to invest and the impact of emerging technology on the skills deficit.

Attendees can also benefit from talks at the co-located International Security Expo featuring presentations by high-profile figures from the UK government, the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA), and industry leaders.

Topics will include modern counter-terrorism, the UK’s role in global security, and future security in the face of evolving threats.
