Following a successful Intersec 2024, UAE Region Chairperson of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (ISRM), Mark Nuttall shares some reflections and offers a review of the summit, which he chaired, while also acting as Master of Ceremonies.

According to Nuttall, in a newsletter released last week, the summit was a beacon of hope and resilience, bringing together distinguished leaders from around the world to focus on the pressing issues of security, geopolitics, and risk management.

Those leaders included himself and ISRM Chief Executive Dr David Rubens, H.E. Major General Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Bin Fahad, who delivered the opening keynote. Other leaders present included representatives from NATO, Interpol, the UN Office of Counterterrorism, the UK’s BSIA, and the Canadian Armed Forces, among many others.

The summit had an “overarching theme to Unite, Act and Deliver”, and, said Nuttall, was “a testament to our shared commitment to resilience, security, and risk mitigation”. It was structured into two days of intensive sessions, each focusing on specific areas of security, risk, and leadership, Nuttall said.

The agenda comprised 26 different discussions/addresses, on a range of topics including Countering Terrorism & Violent Extremism in the Digital Age, Thought Leadership Panel – Future Proofing Security, Combatting Environmental Crimes, Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, AI, Facial Recognition, and Physical Security Automation: A Risk-Based Approach. Women is security were also celebrated at the event, and a full summary of the agenda from the ISRM is available here.

Finishing up the summit, Nuttall said: “Our work is not just about securing our nations or organisations, it is about safeguarding humanity: Our family, our friends, our sisters, and brothers. It is about building a world that is not just secure, but also Just, Equitable, and Sustainable.

“In conclusion, let us remember that security is not a destination, but a journey. It requires constant vigilance, relentless effort, and above all, unwavering commitment to cooperation and unity. Let this summit serve as a platform for us to learn from each other, to collaborate, and to forge a path towards a safer, more secure world.”
