“Adapt, secure, thrive” is a strapline for Nedap, the Netherlands-based access control specialists who are active in the Middle East with impressive major case studies across the region such as Saudi Aramco who are one of the largest oil-producing companies in the world. Nedap (stand S1 E22 at Intersec) are also active in the Emirates where the project portfolio includes ADNOC Distribution, a UAE retail fuel operator at service stations across commerce, government and military.
And being adaptive is truly one of the company’s values as the range of credential methods by which a user can identify themselves to access control readers continues to grow.
SoS spoke to Ankith Kumar who is a Nedap marketing manager for Middle East, Turkey and North Africa.
Ankith explained how Nedap is minimizing delay at readers and reducing logistical complications for end-user staff by integrating employee badges into Apple Wallet. (The R & D department are now working on a comparable offering for Android and this will be released in the future.)
Smart watches and smartphones are almost an integral part of anybody’s routine as they prepare for work. This means that delays at entrance point readers while an employee struggles to find a card or fob will soon be history though more traditional credential devices will remain in the Nedap offering.
Issuing, modifying and even cancelling employee access rights can be done remotely and there is no physical distribution to cause delay or involve costs. Nedap can thus dispense with the complications of additional software from a third party and there is a positive green aspect to removing the need for plastic cards and fobs.
Ankith also took SoS through a scenario of arriving by vehicle at a Nedap-protected site. He explained the functions of uPASS Go, this being Nedap’s latest UHF RFID reader for long-range vehicle identification at access points. Vehicles can be identified up to 33 feet using passive UHF technology with security staff having a white list of approved vehicles and, indeed, a black list of prohibited vehicles where required.
