Onity expands IOT offering in self-storage security with innovative sensor integration

Onity

Onity, a global leader in electronic access solutions and mobile credentialing, is proud to announce a pioneering advancement in IoT-based self-storage security with plans to integrate state-of-the-art sensors into the PassportTM locking solution.

According to the brand, this initiative represents a significant leap forward in safeguarding self-storage facilities against various threats, ranging from environmental factors to pest control, greatly expanding the IoT capabilities beyond access. Onity is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

The decision to incorporate sensors capable of detecting temperature, motion, water, pests, and more into the Passport solution is said to reflect Onity’s commitment to providing comprehensive security solutions tailored to the unique needs of the self-storage industry.

The Long-Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN®) gateway, included in the Passport locking solution, promises a remarkably adaptable and scalable method for crafting the perfect solution tailored to the needs of a self-storage facility, all without the additional overhead and installation associated with conventional networking solutions like Wi-Fi. By leveraging cutting-edge sensor technology, Onity says its connected locking solution will empower facility owners and managers with real-time insights and proactive monitoring capabilities, thereby enhancing overall security and operational efficiency.

Through seamless integration, the LoRaWAN gateway becomes a hub for collecting and transmitting information from the sensors to Onity’s PassportalTM cloud-based management system, ensuring reliable communication and centralised management of data, Onity says. This actionable information is then easily accessible to authorised personnel via the system’s user-friendly interface, for timely detection of potential security breaches or environmental anomalies, enabling prompt intervention to mitigate risks and prevent costly damages.

“We are excited to unveil this innovative solution that redefines the standards of security within the self-storage industry,” said Craig Henricksen, Head of Product Management at Onity. “Passport was crafted to accommodate various solutions, functioning seamlessly as a stand-alone electronic lock with extended longevity for basic storage security requirements while also offering the flexibility to integrate additional features tailored to a facility’s specific needs, ranging from advanced remote monitoring to insightful data analysis. This marks the next phase of Passport’s evolution, demonstrating the effortless integration of robust monitoring sensors into our existing LoRaWAN infrastructure without the need for costly renovations or fees.”

In addition to enhancing security measures, the integration of sensors into the Onity smart lock portfolio offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Early detection of temperature fluctuations, enabling preemptive measures to protect temperature-sensitive items stored within the facility.
  • Real-time monitoring of motion, facilitating swift response to unauthorised access and potential theft incidents.
  • Immediate alerts in the event of water leaks or rodent infestations, minimising property damage and ensuring the safety and integrity of stored belongings.

The introduction of this sensor-integrated smart lock solution emphasises Onity’s ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in the field of IoT-based security technology. Additionally, Onity remains dedicated to partnering with self-storage industry stakeholders to address evolving security challenges and deliver solutions that set new industry benchmarks.
