OPTEX, a leading sensing technologies manufacturer for over 40 years, has released a new case study detailing how one of the world’s largest investors in renewable energy entrusted Quadrix Integrated, the security and technology integrator, with the task of designing and implementing a new security system for its three perimeters of photovoltaic panels and associated critical infrastructure in Mureș County, Romania. The primary requirement was a solution that was largely automated, helping to minimise the need for manual operation.
Due to the remote nature of the site, a highly reliable intrusion detection system was required to ensure no false alarms could trigger along its perimeter fence line -especially in adverse weather conditions, such as extreme heat or heavy rainfall.
To meet these requirements, the Quadrix team selected OPTEX’s REDWALL SIP-100 Outdoor long-range PIR detectors to protect the high-value photovoltaic assets. Under the compliance of GDPR and ensuring personal privacy, over 120 detectors, working in tandem with PTZ cameras, were installed across the perimeter under an integrated and unified security platform.
Mihai Ciuperca, Managing Director of Quadrix says: “The REDWALL SIP detectors are crucial in securing our client’s solar energy infrastructure while maintaining the privacy of the surrounding areas. The detectors perform exceptionally well in outdoor environments, offering a high detection rate with minimal false alarms—ideal for event-triggered intrusion detection systems.”
Dragos Enea, Regional Sales Manager for Romania and Bulgaria at OPTEX, added: “OPTEX provides a comprehensive range of products with outstanding features. In this solar farm setting, the SIP-100 model, with its detection range of 100x3m, is perfect for protecting long and narrow areas such as fence lines or alleyways. It includes three outputs: two for near and far zones and one for creep-zone detection, with PTZ cameras automatically tracking any detected intrusions.”
Initially, the project covered only three sites, but due to the effectiveness of the OPTEX detectors, combined with Hanwha Vision cameras and the Genetec platform, the system is now being rolled out across a range of sites within the Quadrix Integrated portfolio. The team is also considering integrating OPTEX outdoor active infrared beam detectors to further bolster security in areas that present infrastructure challenges.
