Outer Hebrides Firm Closed Door Security Wins National Cyber Excellence Award

CLOSED DOOR SECURITY

Closed Door Security, the only cyber security company based in the Outer Hebrides, has been crowned winner of the Cyber Excellence Award at the ScotlandIS Digital Tech Awards 2026.

The award recognises organisations that have developed ground-breaking solutions that significantly enhances the ability to defend, disrupt, or support organisations in preventing, responding to or recovering from cyber attacks.

Closed Door Security was specifically recognised for the speed and simplicity it delivers its services to its customers, and for the company’s growth from a one-person operation to a global service provider.

For a company headquartered in one of the UK’s most remote regions, the win marks a significant milestone, not only for the Closed Door Security, but for the growing role of the Highlands and Islands in Scotland’s tech and cyber security landscape.

“This recognition is hugely important for us,” said William Wright, CEO of Closed Door Security. “We’ve always believed that geography should never be a barrier to delivering world-class cyber security services. To be recognised at a national level reinforces that talent and innovation exist right here in the Outer Hebrides.”

While Scotland’s central belt is often seen as the hub of digital innovation, Closed Door Security’s success highlights the strength of tech capability across rural and island communities.

As the only cyber security specialist headquartered in the Outer Hebrides, Closed Door Security plays a critical role in supporting local organisations, public sector bodies, and businesses that may otherwise have limited access to specialist expertise.

Closed Door Security is headquartered in Lewis, but it has offices in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States.

Its work spans threat-led network penetration testing and cyber governance. These services support organisations with their cyber defences, ensuring any potential weaknesses are identified in environments and mitigated before attackers have a chance to exploit them.

Closed Door Security’s services are becoming increasingly vital as cyber threats continue to rise and enhancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are exacerbating challenges. The firm also delivers Cyber Essentials certifications for SMEs, which the UK government is currently pushing the adoption of to enhance overall cyber resilience across the nation.

The ScotlandIS Digital Tech Awards celebrate innovation, leadership, and impact across Scotland’s technology sector, attracting entries from some of the country’s most established and high-growth companies.

For a business based in the Outer Hebrides to compete, and win, against some of the largest technology organisations from across Scotland is a strong signal of both capability and ambition.

“This is not just a win for our team, but for the wider community,” Wright added. “We’re proud to show that businesses in the Outer Hebrides can compete at the highest level and contribute meaningfully to Scotland’s digital future.”

As cyber threats continue to evolve, the demand for trusted, resilient security partners is only expected to grow. Closed Door Security plans to build on this momentum, continuing to support organisations across Scotland and the wider UK, and the UAE and United States.
