“More resilient energy operations start with a clearer picture” says Synectics at ADIPEC

Synectics

SYNECTICS, a leader in advanced security and surveillance solutions, will showcase its latest COEX camera innovations at ADIPEC 2026, demonstrating how oil, gas and wider energy operators can improve operational visibility, strengthen resilience and get more value from their technology investment.

With critical infrastructure resilience and the returns from AI and digital spend under the spotlight at ADIPEC, Synectics’ focus will be on three innovations that support both: adaptive infrared (IR), edge analytics for applications such as PPE detection, and connectivity to private 5G networks.

These advances help address three challenges facing energy operators: obtaining reliable images in difficult conditions, identifying potential safety issues without constant manual observation and extending coverage to locations where new data cabling is costly or impractical.

Darren Alder, Head of Global Energy at Synectics, comments: “More resilient energy operations start with a clearer picture. Operators need reliable information about what is happening across their facilities, including locations where monitoring has been difficult or costly to establish.

“That means improving image quality, drawing attention to potential safety issues and making cameras easier to deploy where they are needed. Improvements in these areas help teams make informed decisions sooner and reduce manual effort. At ADIPEC, we’ll show operators what that looks like in practice and how to get more value from their surveillance and network investment.”

Clearer images for more reliable decisions

Reflective pipework, glare and objects at different distances can make industrial scenes difficult to monitor at night. Fixed IR illumination can overexpose nearby objects while leaving important detail elsewhere unclear.

COEX adaptive IR adjusts illumination in response to scene conditions, subject distance and reflectivity. Operators receive more consistent, usable imagery across the scene, while installers spend less time manually tuning camera illumination.

For offshore and remote facilities, clearer evidence supports more reliable remote verification, helping teams assess whether a physical intervention is necessary before committing time and resources.

AI-powered edge analytics for safety, security and operational oversight

At ADIPEC, Synectics will demonstrate how COEX IP cameras use edge analytics to identify defined events and generate alerts at the camera. Available functions include intrusion, abandoned-object, object-removal, wrong-direction and loitering detection, as well as people and vehicle counting.

PPE detection adds another way to monitor safety and will be a key focus at the show. Configured for specific scenes and zones, it can alert operators when specified protective equipment – including hard hats, goggles, gloves and high-visibility clothing – is not detected. Available functions depend on the camera model, firmware and deployment.

By processing video at its source, COEX cameras can help reduce bandwidth demand and central processing load while directing attention to events that may need review. Alerts and event data generated support faster, more consistent safety reviews and provide visual evidence for investigation and follow-up, complementing established site safety procedures.

Flexible coverage that makes infrastructure work harder

Synectics will also demonstrate new private 5G connectivity capabilities for COEX cameras giving operators greater flexibility to extend or relocate cameras with less dependence on new fixed data cabling.

This offers greater flexibility for temporary work areas, evolving facilities and difficult-to-cable locations within network coverage. It also provides a practical use for private 5G investment, with deployment planned around site-specific power and network requirements.

The developments build on more than four decades of COEX engineering for harsh and hazardous environments, supporting surveillance across onshore facilities, offshore assets and renewable energy operations.
