In an age where AI video editing and ‘deep fakes’ are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and easier for just about anyone to create, the world of CCTV and video analytics is under threat, with video authenticity potentially much easier to question. This problem, and how the industry might tackle it, was one of the key themes of ONVIF’s presentation at the Intersec 2025 Security Leaders Summit. In this exclusive interview with Peter Mawson at the show, Chairman Leo Levit highlights its open source solution – digital signatures from recording to viewing, which may make faking videos practically impossible.
ONVIF standardises security interfaces based on IP technologies, with typical products utilising this type of standardisation including cameras, access control devices and clients, which, for the company, are VMS and access control systems. The company works for efficient interoperability between different products in the physical security network. “For us it’s extremely important to be open”. Its digital signature technology will be open to all camera manufacturers, “as this is for the greater good of the whole industry”, Levit says.
