Security on Screen spoke to John MacAskill of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) on stand S3 B35 at Intersec 2025.
As Director – Security & Export, MacAskill has done much to organise the UK Safety Pavilion at Intersec and he works with external partners in promoting British security overseas. Companies such as Todd Research who we interviewed yesterday are on adjacent stands.
The BSIA works with organisations such as RISC – Security and Resilience Industry Suppliers Community – which is an alliance of associations and bodies representing the UK’s security and resilience sector to Government. Other strategic partners are JSaRC, the Joint Security and Resilience Centre which is part of the UK Home Office.
MacAskill is enthused about Intersec and Messe Frankfurt [@messefrankfurt]. He said: “The space in the UK Safety Pavilion is sold out and we could have sold more! It’s striking testimony to the success of Intersec and how exhibitors view it. The spaces were taken up promptly by companies who value the leads they gain from this event.”
MacAskill continued: “The BSIA works with many associates including ADS who are another UK trade association advancing leadership in aerospace, defence, security and space. As physical and cyber security continue to converge, we maintain links with techUK who are an association working towards optimum cyber resilience and positive outcomes from digital technology.
It’s important to remember when looking at the UK Safety Pavilion here that security is worth more as an export to the British economy than defence – certainly over the last few years.
MacAskill said: “Emirati companies, trade bodies and government agencies like you to be actually here with feet on the ground. It’s good to be able to collaborate with people like David Arthurs who is police & security advisor at the British Embassy here in Dubai. This event goes from strength to strength. I’ve looked after the Pavilion for seven years – and there’s been no Seven Year Itch – certainly not yet!”
