Industry leading, UK-based technology-led employee safety business, Peoplesafe, has released a blog on its website, detailing how Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) enhance workplace safety. We have reproduced some of it, but to read the whole piece, see the link below.
The integration of technology in the workplace has transformed how organisations approach employee safety. As a result, businesses are better equipped to streamline safety protocols and protect their employees.
One of the key innovations in this area is the use of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). By connecting various safety technologies and facilitating data exchange, APIs enable organisations to optimise their processes and respond more effectively to potential hazards.
What are APIs?
APIs are digital bridges that support communication between different software systems. They enable one application to request data or services from another, streamlining the exchange of information.
By leveraging APIs, organisations can automate data collection processes, significantly reducing the time spent on manual data entry and other administrative tasks. Most importantly, APIs can seamlessly integrate into existing workplace systems, making employee safety management a natural part of everyday business operations without requiring additional effort from employees.
Using APIs to automate operations
APIs can be a valuable tool for automating repetitive manual tasks within organisations. They enable seamless data transfer between systems, eliminating the need for human input when moving data from one platform to another or updating information. For any task that involves gathering data from multiple sources or uploading it across different systems, APIs can be used to automate the process.
For example, at Peoplesafe, our User Management API integrates Nexus, our management platform, with widely used HR platforms such as Workday, Oracle HR and PeopleHR. This integration automates the entry of joiner and leaver data, while efficiently managing team structures by adding or removing users and managers from relevant teams. It also supports tasks such as assigning device and app subscriptions ensuring team structures remain up to date without manual input. Designed specifically to reduce administrative overheads, this API allows organisations to streamline their operations and save valuable time.
This automation leads to significant cost savings, as the seamless data exchange reduces the administrative burden, freeing up time for more strategic work. Nexus also automatically mirrors internal systems to accommodate organisational growth or structural changes, allowing for easy scalability without added complexity. The reduction in manual input also means safety teams can focus on more critical tasks, actively managing employee safety at scale without increasing pressure on their existing workflows.
Streamlining Workforce Management
Our Service API seamlessly connects Nexus with workforce management systems, embedding employee safety into everyday processes. By integrating these systems, workers can continue using their familiar workforce management apps without needing to switch between platforms. Key tasks like checking in and out of shifts and setting timed activity alarms for specific jobs are automatically managed using the information already entered in the workforce management app This information is simply pushed to the Peoplesafe app.
This integration ensures that employee safety becomes an effortless part of existing workflows, allowing organisations to manage both operational tasks and safety protocols through a single system. Embedding safety features directly into the workforce management process enables businesses to enhance their duty of care without adding extra steps in day-to-day operations.
Seamless integration
In addition, APIs make it easy to connect different safety technologies, allowing organisations to tailor their safety protocols to meet specific needs. For instance, Peoplesafe’s API integrations allow organisations already using fleet management platforms like Geotab to easily incorporate our employee safety technology into their existing systems.
With this integration, Geotab users can add Peoplesafe as an ‘add-in’ through the Geotab Marketplace. Once integrated, users can log in to the Peoplesafe Nexus platform with a single sign-on (SSO) process, using Geotab as the identity provider. This means that fleet managers can effortlessly access the Peoplesafe Nexus platform without re-entering login details, making it even easier to oversee both vehicle and employee safety.
