ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions UK & Ireland Door Group (Door Group) has announced the appointment of Cormac Hardy as Electronic Design Engineer.

This was done through the Knowledge Transfer Programme Associate initiative from Ulster University, which is part-funded by Innovate UK and brings together forward-thinking businesses and expert academics to tackle strategic innovation challenges to deliver economic, societal or environmental outcomes.

Support and leadership are provided through the university’s School of Engineering Faculty, while the student undertakes the day-to-day job with the business.

This new full-time role is based at Door Group in Lisburn and is a two-year position. As part of the role, Cormac will be involved in a real research and development project that is hoped to generate future products, revenue and profit for the business.

Brian Sofley, Managing Director at Door Group, explains: “The Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme provides a link between university and business, with the objective that businesses can develop ideas better and faster by connecting them to the right expertise and next generation of new talent.”

“The scheme also enables a transfer of knowledge into the business to sustain innovation further. ASSA ABLOY is committed to offering opportunities to young people, nurturing their talents, and addressing the engineering industry skills gap.”

“We are very pleased to welcome Cormac on board and are excited to see what fresh ideas he can bring to the table.”

Cormac added: “I’m really excited to be joining ASSA ABLOY Door Group through the KTP programme. It’s a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an engineering R&D environment, which is something I’ve been working on throughout my studies.”

“I’m looking forward to learning as much as possible, taking on new challenges and making the most of opportunities to collaborate and travel and grow as an engineer.”
